Onboarding an Edge Device for the Aviatrix Edge Platform

For a list of the supported edge devices, see Supported Edge Hardware for the Aviatrix Edge Platform.

Onboarding your Edge Device

To onboard your edge device, follow these steps.

  1. In Aviatrix CoPilot, go to Cloud Fabric > Hybrid Cloud > Devices tab.

  2. Click Onboard Device, then provide the following information.

    Field

    Description

    Name

A name to identify the edge device.

    Platform

The Edge Platform Account where to onboard the device.

See Setting up Accounts for Edge Platforms.

    Hardware Configuration

    For Edge Transit Gateway, select:

    • DELL Poweredge 2x E810

For Edge Spoke Gateway, select one of the following:

    • DELL Poweredge 1x E810

    • HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen 10 V2

    Serial Number

The serial number of the edge device.

  3. Expand Device Interface Configuration and configure the device’s MGMT (Management) interface. Skip the LAN and WAN interface configurations.

  4. For dynamic IP address assignment, turn DHCP toggle to On . Leave it Off for static IP address assignment.

If DHCP is Off, enter the static IP for the Management port.

    Field

    Description

    Interface CIDR

    The Management interface CIDR.

    Gateway IP

The Management Default Gateway IP address.

    Primary DNS

The primary DNS server IP address.

    Secondary DNS

(Optional) The secondary DNS server IP address.

  5. If you are using a Proxy setup, then from Proxy Profile dropdown menu, select the profile to upload to the edge device. See Using a Proxy Profile on the Edge Device.

  6. Save the configuration.

    • When DHCP is selected for MGMT interface, click Save.

    • When static IP is selected for MGMT interface, from the Save and Download Config drop-down menu, click Save.

The configuration is downloaded to the local drive.

  7. Attach the configuration to the edge node by using the iLO interface on the edge device.

Once the device is configured, the device onboarding process starts. After the process is complete, you can view the status of the device in CoPilot by going to Cloud Fabric > Hybrid Cloud > Devices tab. The device status should show as Connected.

Once the device is connected, you can deploy the Edge Gateway on the edge device.

Using a Proxy Profile on the Edge Device

The edge devices supported on the Aviatrix Edge Platform requires egress over the public internet to communicate with the Aviatrix Platform. If internet traffic is routed through a proxy server, you can configure a proxy profile and associate the profile with the edge device.

Creating a Proxy Profile

To configure a proxy profile, follow these steps.

  1. In Aviatrix CoPilot, go to Cloud Fabric > Hybrid Cloud > Devices tab.

  2. Click Proxy Profiles.

  3. In Proxy Profiles, click + Proxy Profile, then provide the following information.

    Field

    Description

    Name

A name for the proxy profile.

    Transparent Mode

If you use a Transparent proxy server, set Transparent Mode toggle to On.

A Proxy CA Certificate is required when Transparent Mode is On.

    Proxy Server IP

The IP address of the Proxy server.

    Port

The port number used for the Proxy server.

    Proxy CA Certificate

The certificate authority (CA) certificate to use on the edge device.

The Proxy CA certificate must be in Privacy Enhanced Mail (PEM) file format.

  4. Click Save.

You can now use the proxy profile to configure the Management interface of the edge device when you onboard the device.

Modifying or Deleting a Proxy Profile

If a proxy profile is associated with an edge device, modifying the proxy file may result in communication disruptions with the Aviatrix platform.

To modify a proxy profile:

  1. In Aviatrix CoPilot, go to Cloud Fabric > Hybrid Cloud > Devices tab.

  2. Click Proxy Profiles.

  3. In the table, locate the proxy profile you want to edit and click the Edit icon on the right.

  4. Make any changes needed.

  5. Click Save.

To delete a proxy profile:

  1. In Aviatrix CoPilot, go to Cloud Fabric > Hybrid Cloud > Devices tab.

  2. Click Proxy Profiles.

  3. In the table, locate the proxy profile you want to delete and click the Delete icon on the right.

The Delete icon is disabled if a proxy profile is associated with any edge device. You must first remove the proxy profile association for the edge devices.
  4. To confirm the deletion, click Delete.

Removing a Proxy Profile Association for an Edge Device

To remove a proxy profile association for an edge device:

  1. In Aviatrix CoPilot, go to Cloud Fabric > Hybrid Cloud > Devices tab.

  2. In the table, locate the edge device and click the Edit icon on the right.

  3. Delete the proxy profile associated with the MGMT interface.

  4. Click Save.
