# Scaling

> This section provides the purpose, elements, and actions performed on the Scaling pages.

This section provides the purpose, elements, and actions performed on the
**Scaling** pages.

    ## Purpose

    The **Auto Right-Sizing** page provides options to configure automatic resizing
    of cloud resources based on utilization metrics to optimize performance and
    cost.

    ## Elements

    * **Actions button**: Performs bulk Resize Gateway Instances, Dismiss
      Recommendations, and Ignore Recommendations from VPC/VNets, on selected
      Gateway instances.
    * **Settings button**: Changes monitoring frequency, excludes VPC/VNets, and
      disables Auto Right-Sizing.
    * **Aviatrix Standard Sizes**: Displays Aviatrix standard sizes versus cloud
      provider sizes for better comparison.
    * **Auto Right-Sizing table**: Displays Gateway Instances and their right-sizing
      recommendations based on utilization metrics.

      <Accordion title="View Auto Right-Sizing Recommendations">
        To view right-sizing recommendations for gateway instances:

        1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Right-Sizing**.<br />The Auto Right-Sizing page appears with a table of gateway instances and their recommendations.
        2. Optionally, click a gateway instance to view details.
        3. Optionally, review **Aviatrix Standard Sizes** to compare Aviatrix sizes with cloud provider sizes.

        The table displays gateway instances with their current size, recommended size,
        CPU and memory utilization, and network throughput.

        ### Parameter Details

        | CoPilot Parameter Name | Description                                                                          |
        | ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
        | Gateway Instance       | The name of the gateway instance being evaluated for right-sizing.                   |
        | Current Size           | The current size of the gateway instance.                                            |
        | Recommended Size       | The suggested size for the gateway instance based on utilization metrics.            |
        | CPU Utilization        | The average CPU usage percentage of the gateway instance over a specified period.    |
        | Memory Utilization     | The average memory usage percentage of the gateway instance over a specified period. |
        | Network Throughput     | The average network throughput of the gateway instance over a specified period.      |
        | Last Evaluated         | The timestamp of the last evaluation for right-sizing recommendations.               |

      <Accordion title="Resize Gateway Instances">
        To resize gateway instances based on Auto Right-Sizing recommendations:

        1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Right-Sizing**.<br />The Auto Right-Sizing page appears with a table of gateway instances.
        2. Select one or more gateway instances.
        3. Click **Actions** and select **Resize Now** to resize immediately, or **Schedule Resize** to schedule during a maintenance window.
        4. If **Resize Now**, click **Resize Now** to confirm.
        5. If **Schedule Resize**, select a maintenance window or click **+ Maintenance Window** to create one, then click **Schedule Resize**.

        A notification appears when the resize is initiated. Monitor the status on
        **Monitoring** > **Notifications** > **Tasks** or **Cloud Fabric** >
        **Scaling** > **Events**.

      <Accordion title="Dismiss Recommendations">
        To dismiss recommendations for the current monitoring period:

        1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Right-Sizing**.<br />The Auto Right-Sizing page appears with a table of gateway instances.
        2. Do one of the following: select one or more gateway instances and click **Actions** > **Dismiss Recommendations**; or click the vertical ellipsis next to a gateway instance and select **Dismiss Recommendation**; or click a gateway instance to view details, then click **Resize** > **Dismiss Recommendation**.
        3. Click **Dismiss** when prompted.

        Dismissed recommendations may display again during the next monitoring period.
        Use **Ignore Recommendations from VPC/VNets** if you do not want them to display
        in subsequent periods.

      <Accordion title="Ignore Recommendations from VPC/VNets">
        To ignore recommendations so they do not display in subsequent monitoring periods:

        1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Right-Sizing**.<br />The Auto Right-Sizing page appears with a table of gateway instances.
        2. Do one of the following: select one or more gateway instances and click **Actions** > **Ignore Recommendations from VPC/VNets**; or click the vertical ellipsis next to a gateway instance and select **Ignore Recommendations from this VPC/VNet**; or click a gateway instance to view details, then click **Resize** > **Ignore Recommendations from this VPC/VNet**.
        3. Click **Ignore** when prompted.

        The VPC/VNet is added to the Excluded VPC/VNets list in Auto Right-Sizing
        Settings. To include it again, open **Settings** and remove it from the Excluded
        VPC/VNets list.

      <Accordion title="Configure Auto Right-Sizing Settings">
        To configure monitoring frequency and exclude VPC/VNets:

        1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Right-Sizing**.<br />The Auto Right-Sizing page appears.
        2. Click **Settings**.<br />The Auto Right-Sizing Settings dialog appears.
        3. Select the **Monitoring Frequency**: Every 24 hours, Every 12 hours, or Every hour.
        4. Select the **VPC/VNets** to exclude from the monitoring scan.
        5. Optionally, disable Auto Right-Sizing if needed.
        6. Click **Save**.

        A message indicates when the next monitoring scan is scheduled. To include
        VPC/VNets again, remove them from the Excluded VPC/VNets field and click
        **Save**.

        ### Parameter Details

  <Tab title="Events">
    ## Purpose

    The **Events** page logs scaling-related activities, including gateway instance
    resizing events that are in progress or have completed. You can view the event
    list and details for each event.

    ## Elements

    * **Events table**: Displays Timestamp, Gateway Instance, VPC/VNet, Initiation,
      Action, and Status of scaling-related events. \* **Event Brief**: Provides brief
      details of a selected event from the Events table.

      <Accordion title="View Scaling Events">
        To view scaling-related events:

        1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Events**.<br />The Events page appears with a table of scaling events.
        2. Optionally, use filters or search to find specific events.
        3. Review the table for event Timestamp, Gateway Instance, VPC/VNet, Initiation (Auto Right-Sizing or Manual Resize), Action (Resized, Dismissed), and Status (In Progress, Success, Error).

        The table displays all right-sizing events that are in progress or have
        completed. Status shows In Progress, Success, or Error; hover over the tooltip
        next to Error status for details.

        ### Parameter Details

        | CoPilot Parameter Name | Description                                                                                        |
        | ---------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
        | Timestamp              | The date and time when the scaling event occurred.                                                 |
        | Gateway Instance       | The name of the gateway instance involved in the scaling event.                                    |
        | VPC/VNet               | The VPC or VNet associated with the scaling event.                                                 |
        | Initiation             | The source of the scaling event (Auto Right-Sizing, Manual Resize, or Deleted Maintenance Window). |
        | Action                 | The type of action taken (Resized, Dismissed).                                                     |
        | Status                 | The current status (In Progress, Success, Error). Hover over the tooltip for error details.        |

      <Accordion title="View Event Details">
        To view details for a specific scaling event:

        1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Events**.<br />The Events page appears with a table of scaling events.
        2. Click an event in the table.<br />The Event Brief pane on the right shows details for the selected event.

        The Event Brief pane displays detailed information about the scaling event.

        ## Purpose

        The **Maintenance Windows** page shows configured maintenance windows for the
        scaling operations. You can view, create, edit, and delete maintenance windows
        for scheduling Auto Right-Sizing resize operations.

        * **+ Maintenance Window button**: Starts the process to create a new
          maintenance window. \* **Maintenance Windows table**: Shows Name, Schedule,
          Maintenance Window Length, Runs, Next Window, and Actions for each maintenance
          window.

            To view configured maintenance windows:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Maintenance Windows**.<br />Click **Maintenance Windows** in the sub-tabs.
            2. The Maintenance Windows page appears with a table of configured maintenance windows.
            3. Review Name, Schedule, Maintenance Window Length, Runs, and Next Window for each maintenance window.

            The table displays all maintenance windows used for scheduling Auto Right-Sizing
            resize operations.

            ### Parameter Details

            | CoPilot Parameter Name    | Description                                                 |
            | ------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
            | Name                      | The name assigned to the maintenance window.                |
            | Schedule                  | The recurrence pattern (Daily, Weekly, Monthly).            |
            | Maintenance Window Length | The duration of the maintenance window (minimum 4 hours).   |
            | Runs                      | The total number of maintenance runs scheduled.             |
            | Next Window               | The date and time of the next scheduled maintenance window. |
            | Actions                   | Options to edit, delete, and view the maintenance window.   |

          <Accordion title="Create Maintenance Window">
            To create a new maintenance window:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Maintenance Windows**.<br />Click **Maintenance Windows** in the sub-tabs.
            2. Click **+ Maintenance Window**.<br />The Create Maintenance Window dialog appears.
            3. Enter **Name**, **Start** (date and time; adjusted to nearest 30-minute UTC interval), **Repeat** (Daily, Weekly, or Monthly), **Every**, **On** (days for Weekly; day options for Monthly), and **Maintenance Window Length** (minimum 4 hours).
            4. Click **Save**.

            The maintenance window is created and appears in the table. Use it when
            scheduling resize operations from the Auto Right-Sizing tab.

            ### Parameter Details

          <Accordion title="Edit Maintenance Window">
            To edit a maintenance window:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Maintenance Windows**.<br />Click **Maintenance Windows** in the sub-tabs.
            2. Locate the maintenance window and click the **Edit** icon on the row.<br />The Edit Maintenance Window dialog appears.
            3. Make the changes needed (Name, Start, Repeat, Every, On, Maintenance Window Length).
            4. Click **Save**.

            A notification appears confirming the changes. You cannot edit a maintenance
            window that is currently running; stop it first.

          <Accordion title="Delete Maintenance Window">
            To delete a maintenance window:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Maintenance Windows**.<br />Click **Maintenance Windows** in the sub-tabs.
            2. Locate the maintenance window and click the **Delete** icon on the row.<br />The Delete Maintenance Window dialog appears.
            3. Select the checkbox to confirm that all scheduled events associated with the maintenance window will be canceled.
            4. Click **Delete**.

            The maintenance window is deleted. You cannot delete a maintenance window that
            is currently running; stop it first.

      <Tab title="Upcoming">
        ## Purpose

        The **Upcoming** page shows upcoming maintenance windows for the scaling operations. You can view the list of upcoming windows and the order of scheduled events that will run during each window.

          Maintenance Window, Scheduled Events, and Maintenance Window Length for each
          upcoming maintenance window.

            To view upcoming maintenance windows:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Maintenance Windows**.<br />Click **Upcoming** in the sub-tabs.
            2. The Upcoming page appears with a table of upcoming maintenance windows.
            3. Review Scheduled Start Time, Maintenance Window, Scheduled Events, and Maintenance Window Length for each upcoming window.

            The table displays when each maintenance window is scheduled to run and how many
            scaling events are queued.

            | Maintenance Window Length | The duration of the maintenance window.                                                                    |

          <Accordion title="View Scheduled Events">
            To view the order of events that will occur during a maintenance window:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Maintenance Windows**.<br />Click **Upcoming** in the sub-tabs.
            2. The Upcoming page appears with a table of upcoming maintenance windows.
            3. Click the hyperlink in the **Scheduled Events** column next to a maintenance window.<br />The View Scheduled Events dialog appears with the order of operations that will occur during the maintenance window.
            4. Optionally, delete scheduled events using the Delete icon next to a gateway instance.
            5. Click **Close**.

            The dialog shows the order of resize operations that will run during the
            maintenance window. Gateway instances may be skipped if they are already at the
            recommended size.

      <Tab title="Runs">
        ## Purpose

        The **Runs** page shows past maintenance window runs for the scaling operations.
        You can view the list of runs and the events that occurred during each run.

        * **Maintenance Runs table**: Shows Start Time, Maintenance Window, Windows

            3. Review Start Time, Maintenance Window, Windows Length, Status, and Events for each run.

            The table displays the history of maintenance window runs and how many scaling
            events occurred during each run.

          <Accordion title="View Events History">
            To view events that occurred during a maintenance window run:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Maintenance Windows**.<br />Click **Runs** in the sub-tabs.
            2. The Runs page appears with a table of past maintenance window runs.
            3. Click the **Events** link next to a maintenance window run.<br />The Events History dialog appears with the events that occurred during the run.
            4. Review the event status (In Progress, Success, Error, Skipped) for each gateway instance.
            5. Click **Close**.

            The dialog shows the order and status of resize operations that ran during the
            maintenance window. Skipped events may indicate the gateway was already at the
            recommended size, the window was not long enough, or the window was stopped by a
            user.

        ## Purpose

        The **Auto Cycles** page creates and manages automated scaling cycles that
        resize or power gateway instances on a recurring schedule. Each cycle defines an
        enter operation (scale up or power on) and an exit operation (scale down or
        power off) according to a configured frequency and time.

        ## Elements

        * **+ Auto Cycle button**: Opens the Create Auto Cycle dialog.
        * **Aviatrix Standard Sizes button**: Displays the table of Aviatrix standard
          gateway sizes alongside the equivalent cloud provider instance sizes.
        * **Auto Cycles table**: Displays configured cycles and their key properties.
        * **Edit button**: Opens the Edit Auto Cycle dialog for the selected cycle.
        * **Delete button**: Removes the selected cycle and cancels all its scheduled
          operations.
        * **Actions menu (**⋮**)**: Provides Pause, Resume, View Upcoming Schedule, and View
          Runs options for the selected cycle.

          <Accordion title="View Auto Cycles">
            To view configured auto cycles:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.<br />The Auto Cycles page appears with the Auto Cycles table.
            2. Refer to the Parameter Details table for the details of each cycle.
            3. Optionally, use **Search** or the table toolbar filters to narrow rows.

            ### Parameter Details

            | CoPilot Parameter Name | Description                                                                                                                                                               |
            | ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
            | Name                   | The name of the auto cycle.                                                                                                                                               |
            | Type                   | The cycle operation type: **Scale** (resize gateways) or **Power** (power gateways on and off).                                                                           |
            | Schedule               | A human-readable summary of the cycle's enter and exit schedule, including target sizes and times.                                                                        |
            | Gateways               | The number of gateways assigned to this cycle. Click the number to view or manage the gateway list.                                                                       |
            | Next Run               | The date and time of the next scheduled cycle execution. Displays **Cycle Paused** when the cycle is paused and **Cycle Ended** when the cycle has no future occurrences. |

          <Accordion title="Create an Auto Cycle">
            To create an auto cycle:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.
            2. Click **+ Auto Cycle**.<br />The Create Auto Cycle dialog appears.
            3. Enter a **Name** for the cycle.
            4. Select the **Operation Type**: **Scale** to resize gateways, or **Power** to power gateways on and off.
            5. Select a **Start Date** for the first occurrence.
            6. Configure the schedule fields for the selected operation type. Refer to the Parameter Details table.
            7. Optionally, configure an end condition under **End Date**.
            8. Click **Save**.

            The new cycle appears in the Auto Cycles table.

            ### Parameter Details

            **Common fields**

            | CoPilot Parameter Name | Description                                                                                                                                                                 |
            | ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
            | Name                   | Enter a unique name for the cycle. The name cannot contain spaces.                                                                                                          |
            | Operation Type         | Select **Scale** to resize gateway instances on a schedule, or **Power** to power gateway instances on and off on a schedule. Cannot be changed after the cycle is created. |
            | Start Date             | The date on which the first cycle occurrence is scheduled.                                                                                                                  |
            | End Date               | Select **No End Date** to run the cycle indefinitely, **End Date** to stop after a specific date, or **End After** to stop after a specified number of occurrences.         |

            **Scale cycle fields**

            | CoPilot Parameter Name | Description                                                                                                                            |
            | ---------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
            | Repeat                 | The recurrence frequency: **Daily**, **Weekly**, **Monthly**, or **Yearly**.                                                           |
            | Every                  | The interval between occurrences (for example, every 2 weeks).                                                                         |
            | On (enter)             | The day on which the scale-up operation runs (Weekly: day of week; Monthly: day of month; Yearly: month and day). Not shown for Daily. |
            | Scale To (enter)       | The target t-shirt size for the scale-up operation: **xsmall**, **small**, **medium**, **large**, **xlarge**, or **xxlarge**.          |
            | At (enter)             | The time at which the scale-up operation runs. Times are in 15-minute increments.                                                      |
            | On (exit)              | The day on which the scale-down operation runs.                                                                                        |
            | Scale To (exit)        | The target t-shirt size for the scale-down operation.                                                                                  |
            | At (exit)              | The time at which the scale-down operation runs.                                                                                       |

            **Power cycle fields**

            | CoPilot Parameter Name | Description                                                                   |
            | ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
            | On                     | The days of the week on which the power cycle runs. Select one or more days.  |
            | Start At               | The time at which gateways are powered on. Times are in 15-minute increments. |
            | Stop At                | The time at which gateways are powered off.                                   |

          <Accordion title="Edit an Auto Cycle">
            To edit an existing auto cycle:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.
            2. Locate the cycle in the table and click **Edit**.<br />The Edit Auto Cycle dialog appears.
            3. Update the cycle parameters. The **Operation Type** field cannot be changed after the cycle is created. Refer to the Parameter Details table in Create an Auto Cycle.
            4. Click **Save**.

            The cycle is updated in the Auto Cycles table.

          <Accordion title="Delete an Auto Cycle">
            To delete an auto cycle:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.
            2. Locate the cycle in the table and click **Delete**.
            3. Select the acknowledgment checkbox confirming that all scheduled scaling operations associated with this cycle will be canceled.
            4. Click **Delete**.

            The cycle is removed from the Auto Cycles table and all pending operations are
            canceled.

          <Accordion title="Pause an Auto Cycle">
            To pause an auto cycle:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.
            2. Locate the cycle in the table and click the **Actions** menu (**⋮**).
            3. Click **Pause**.<br />A confirmation dialog appears.
            4. Click **Pause** to confirm.

            The cycle is paused. Every scheduled run is suspended until the cycle is
            resumed. The table shows **Cycle Paused** in the **Next Run** column.

          <Accordion title="Resume an Auto Cycle">
            To resume a paused auto cycle:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.
            2. Locate the cycle in the table and click the **Actions** menu (**⋮**).
            3. Click **Resume**.

            The cycle resumes its schedule and the next run time is shown in the **Next
            Run** column.

      <Tab title="Upcoming">
        ## Purpose

        The **Upcoming** page shows the next scheduled executions for all active auto
        cycles. You can preview what operations are planned and skip individual
        occurrences without deleting the cycle.

            3. Refer to the Parameter Details table for the details of each row.

            ### Parameter Details

          <Accordion title="Skip the Next Occurrence">
            To skip the next scheduled execution of a cycle:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.<br />Click **Upcoming** in the sub-tabs.
            2. Hover over the row for the cycle whose next run you want to skip.<br />The **Skip** button appears.
            3. Click **Skip**.<br />A confirmation dialog appears.
            4. Click **Skip** to confirm.

            The occurrence is marked as **Skipped**. Future runs in the schedule are not
            affected.

          <Accordion title="Restore a Skipped Occurrence">
            To undo a skip and restore the next occurrence:

            1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** > **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.<br />Click **Upcoming** in the sub-tabs.
            2. Locate the row showing **Skipped** in the **Scheduled Start Time** column.
            3. Click **Restore**.

            The skip is undone and the occurrence is restored to the schedule.

      <Tab title="Runs">
        ## Purpose

        The **Runs** page shows the execution history for all auto cycles. You can
        review past runs, their status, and the gateway-level resize details for each
        operation.

            To view the per-gateway resize details for a run: 1. Go to **Cloud Fabric** >
            **Scaling** > **Auto Cycles**.

            The detail panel appears below the row, showing each gateway's resize
            operation, operation type (enter or exit), and individual status. 3. Click the
