# Readiness Check for the Aviatrix Controller Upgrade

> Run the CoPilot Readiness Check before a Controller upgrade to surface compatibility and prerequisite issues before the maintenance window.

Upgrading an Aviatrix Controller requires a healthy environment. CoPilot's
**Readiness Check** reviews compatibility, prerequisites, and known issues
before the upgrade so problems surface ahead of the maintenance window.

<Note>
  The Readiness Check applies to Controller upgrades only. Gateway upgrades have
  their own separate readiness checks under **Gateway Upgrade**.
</Note>

## Prerequisites

* An Aviatrix Controller.
* A CoPilot account that can initiate upgrades.

## Run a Readiness Check

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Controller Upgrade">
    In CoPilot, go to **Administration > Maintenance > Controller Upgrade**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select a target version">
    Select the **Target Version** to check against.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run the check">
    Click **Run Readiness Check** (or **Re-Run Readiness Check** if a
    previous result is already showing). Readiness checks run in the
    background; check back in a few minutes for results.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the results">
    When the check completes, the page shows counts for **Failed
    (Blocker)**, **Failed (Non-Blocker)**, **Could Not Run**, and
    **Passed**, followed by the list of issues. Each issue shows its
    severity, a description, and a **Support** link.

    If there are no blocking failures, the upgrade can proceed. If any
    check reports a **Failed (Blocker)** result, resolve the issue (or
    contact Aviatrix Support) before you upgrade.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Click **Settings** next to **Run Readiness Check** to enable **Auto Readiness
  Checks** on a recurring schedule (for example, every 24 hours), so results are
  ready without running the check manually.
</Tip>

## Limitations

* Only one Readiness Check can run at a time. Starting a new check while one is
  in progress returns an error.
* The Readiness Check covers Controller upgrades only. Gateway upgrade readiness
  checks are separate.
